Does vinyl hold up in Miami's sun, humidity and storms?
What vinyl does well
Vinyl does not rot, does not rust and gives termites nothing to eat. That matters in South Florida, where wet ground and humid air wear down wood and bare steel. It does not need paint, and salt air does not corrode the panels themselves.
What to watch for
Strong sun and heat can fade or chalk lower-grade vinyl, and the material expands and contracts as temperatures change. Mildew and green film can grow in shaded, damp spots, though a wash with soap and water usually clears it. Hardware such as hinges and latches should still be corrosion-resistant.
Wind
Solid vinyl panels catch wind like any solid fence. In the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, some building products need local product approval, and the rules for a fence can depend on its type and location. Ask the contractor and your building department what applies to your fence, and do not assume any vinyl fence is storm-proof.
